Julia
My name is Julia Kinney and I am a senior in the astronomy instructing program! My favorite part of observations is the process of taking the exposures even though it is very cold out. I love seeing the final picture and seeing our work pay off. Finally, I love the community we have built of people who come out to stand in the freezing cold to learn about the telescope and astronomy in general.
Nathan
Hey, I'm Nathan Lau. I am currently a senior and one of the instructors for the Astronomy Program. Being able to photograph deep-space objects is incredible. It is hard work, which makes being able to see a clear, crisp, and colorful final image, pay off well. As a future mechanical engineer, I love the technicality of how the telescope works and all the components the system consists of to make it work. This is one of the best opportunities I have ever taken and I have no regrets whatsoever. No matter how cold the weather will be, I will always be excited for an observation.
Emily
Hello! My name is Emily. I’m a sophomore in the GHHS Observing Program. I chose to become part of this program because space really fascinates me, and I love having the opportunity to go out and photograph nebulas. I really enjoy being able to learn more deeply about the science, space, and technology that makes it possible for us to perform research. I also love having fun during our observations, huddling in front of the heater (not melting my shoes).
Ashe
Hi, my name is Ash Curette and I'm a senior in the Astronomy Program. I currently lead the work on the Celestron with a focus on Planetary and Solar Astronomy. This has been extremely exciting and I absolutely love the opportunity I've been given to work with the telescope. I especially love being able to problem-solve and experiment without the stakes of a grade and doing it simply because I enjoy the activity. Even if the telescope isn't behaving as it should, and I make minimal progress one night, I find every moment that I get to work with it to be interesting and rewarding. I'm especially thrilled to figure out how to properly take photos and to begin working with the sun.
